Take Some Time

It’s so important to make time for yourself once in a while. Nowadays the world is constantly go, go, go and things can get pretty overwhelming. I think the expansion and continuous development of technology has a huge impact on the way we live our lives and the majority of us walk around with our heads in our phones. I’m not saying I’m an exception to this at all…. I’m terrible for it. Blogging in my spare time (alongside my love for Instagram and twitter) leads me permanently glued to my phone it’s not good at all. Without it I feel lost, and it’s just crazy to think that one can become so heavily reliant on a piece of technology. In my opinion, the world is only speeding up. With every new gadget and every new app release shortcuts are being taken in our everyday lives, making tasks easier to complete and therefore leading us to cram more and more into our days. I mean I truly think that technology is incredible and it’s made such a monumental difference to the way we live, but sometimes, I think it’s taking over a little bit too much and we are forgetting how to live.

I don’t live in a busy city, yet I still find myself rushing around constantly caught up in a flow of busy people living busy lives. I can’t image what it’s like to live somewhere like London where life moves at an insane pace. When I go to Cornwall I just love how much more relaxed everything is. Even when the place is brimming with tourists it feels like people live far more relaxed lifestyles not forcing themselves to be caught up in the speeding madness of the rest of the country.

Sometimes I think we just need to slow down. Step away from the technology that rules are lives and relax.

(I’d love to practice what I preach more often… however I’m trying to get better at making time for myself a little bit at a time. So, with that in mind, I thought I’d share with you all some of the things I like to do when making time for me.)

In between working full time and doing all the little jobs I need to do around the house, everything can feel a bit manic. I get to spend quite a lot of my free with my boyfriend which is lovely as after 4 and a half years together it’s wonderful getting to spend as much time together as we can. Sometimes however, you just need time to yourself. Whether it’s half an hour, an evening or a whole day, it’s important to have time on your own to do exactly what you want to do. For me, I like to spend that time reading (be it a novel or just a magazine if I don’t have much time), taking a lovely bubbly bath, playing my guitar or piano, painting my nails and even – although I know I said it’s nice to take a break from technology, which is seriously important – taking blog photographs or writing up posts. Even going out for a walk or going to the gym can be classed as ‘me time’. Yes it’s not something where you’re sitting with your feet up relaxing, but if it’s something that you enjoy doing, then do it!

I think what’s important to remember here is to slow down and take in the world around us. Make time for you passions and hobbies and don’t let the grinds of daily life stop you pursuing what you love. It’s so easy to think ‘oh, I’ll do that another day’ when it comes to things you want to do (as opposed to those you need to do), but – in the words of Ferris Bueller – ‘Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while you might miss it.’

A Little LUSH Goodness!

Yesterday Me and Dan popped into Birmingham for a little look around. Well, it was mostly so we could go to the Handmade Burger Kitchen for lunch.... but since we'd driven all the way over there, it was only fair that we had a little wander round a few shops whilst we were in town. Of course for me, LUSH was on the agenda, and from the second I walked in I became super excited about all the new products that were available (sad I know)!

I got chatting to one of the lovely girls who worked there - I mean, how nice are the people who work in LUSH?! - and she showed me so many products and by the end, I really could have just purchased the whole shop.. but I didn't!

I limited myself to only picking up two new things, but don't you worry LUSH, in the words of the Terminator, 'I'll be back'!

My Current Favourite Albums!

I'm pretty sure that music keeps me sane about 99% of the time, and to be honest, I don't know what the heck I would do without it. No matter what mood I'm in, there's always a particular artist/song for that moment, and I adore the way that music has the power to instantly change your mood.

I use music to relax me, motivate me, cheer me up... and make me feel virtually every possible emotion.

Now, all the music I have is stored on my iPod, but only my complete favourites make it onto my phone. This is the thing I take everywhere with me, along with a set of headphones which live permanently in my bag. Together these two items keep me going throughout the day (specifically on long train journeys to and from university), and this is why they are constantly at hand.

So, its time to talk about my current favourite albums!

Lets Bake!

Do you love to bake? If so, I'm pretty sure this post is for you! I love baking, and have done for as long as I remember. The only issue is, now I live on my own it so difficult to bake often as there isn't always some one to eat it all! Now, I'm not saying that I wouldn't thoroughly enjoy the job of stuffing my face with a batch of freshly baked cakes, but I don't think my body would thank me afterwards; so as a result, I try and limit myself to only whipping up something delicious when I know I'll be seeing family/friends who can help with eating it!

So, since I love baking so much, twinned with the fact that the Great British Bake Off is back on TV here in the UK at the moment (hooray!), I thought I'd share some of my favourite recipe books with you all. Lets get our bake on!

Lets Go Bouldering!

When you're afraid of heights, climbing seems like the very last thing you'd want to do. To be honest, it still scares me now. For the first 15 minutes of bouldering or rock climbing I feel tense and afraid, panicking as I climb higher and higher, in the knowledge that I still have to make it down afterwards before my feet are firmly back on the ground. However after that initial fear, I'm in love.

My current favourite: Beauty Products!

I've decided to create several posts in the next week or so entitled "My current favourite:...." followed by different categories, be it beauty, fashion, books etc! I think it will be a great way to share things I'm loving at the moment with you all, and maybe even give you some ideas for things you may want to try!

I'm not really the sort of person to excessively use makeup, however I still find it really amazing how much it can enhance a persons natural features and I enjoy experimenting with it when I can! On a day to day basis I generally stick to a very natural - almost "make up free" - look, and then use bolder and more dramatic makeup looks for when I'm going out to events or special occasions.... I feel that doing this makes those time when you dress up and make a effort feel far more special.

At the moment, I have several products which I'd class in the category of "beauty" that I think are really lovely.... and ones I will definitely by purchasing again!

First things first; I bought the Bare Minerals"get started kit" towards the end of August and since then it has certainly proved itself as a worth foundation. I've always had problems with liquid foundations making my skin look to oily and shiny and leading to breakouts (which is never attractive), and I have never been able to find a product that sits well on my skin all day long. After recommendations from my friend, I decided to go and buy it from Debenhams! It wasn't the cheapest purchase, however I would highly recommend it and I personally feel it was worth every penny. Of course you don't have to buy the entire starter kit... I just loved all the products included and thought the combination of them together created a perfect look.

So what do you get?
- The original foundation in your chosen colour (I wear fairly light)
- Warmth all over face colour - while this may look dark in the pot, it just adds a really nice dash of colour over parts of your face (I use it where the sun would naturally hit my face)
- Original mineral veil - this is just a clear mineral powder which helps to set your foundation in place and is also great if you need to dry your face throughout the day.
- Prime time foundation primer
- Full flawless face brush - I use this to apply my foundation and the mineral veil
- Flawless application face brush - use to apply the "warmth all over"
- Maximum coverage concealer brush

As you can see, you get a lot included in the kit which is great! It gives you all the main products needed to start the change over to a more natural and skin friendly type of make up.

Next is the fragrance "Daisy" by Marc Jacobs. I personally love Marc Jacobs fragrances and have previously had both "Lola" and "Oh Lola". After smelling this beautiful fragrance last may on my trip to Paris, I finally got it for my birthday! It's hard to describe a smell.... but this perfume is fresh, sweet and floral (without being too overpowering) and is one that can be worn day or night!

Who doesn't love Mac lipsticks?! They go on so easily and last for hours! This is my Mac Cremsheen Lipstick in the shade modesty. This has been my favourite lip product for over a year now, due to its perfectly moisturising finish and natural colour. I can't standing using lipsticks that have a very dry finish and I find they make my lips feel completely unhydrated and don't last as long as a more creamy lipstick. If you haven't tried the Mac Cremsheen range then I definitely suggest that you go out and get yourself one to try and I'm sure you won't regret it! There are so many colours to chose from, one to suit any possible occasion.

Finally, I bought the Garnier Ultimate Blends collection of hair products a few weeks back as my hair is currently really dull and damaged! I chose to by the "nourishing repairer" products which are scented with avocado oil and shea butter (such a relaxing and indulgent smell). I have the shampoo, conditioner and 1 minute treatment in these products and I've found that they've began making my hair feel really nourished once again, and because of their wonderful scents, it feels like your using a more expensive luxurious product.... but at a fraction of the price!

So those of a few of my current favourite beauty products! There are many more I could have talked about... I didn't want to bore you all too much though! Check back soon for my of "my current favourites" posts!
